Pakistan’s renowned dramatist and playwright Haseena Moin has passed away today in Karachi.
According to the media reports, the news was confirmed by her family. She breathed her last this morning. She was 79. Haseena Moin had been battling cancer for the past few years.
As per reports, her funeral will be held at her residence in North Nazimabad after Asr.
She wrote many plays for radio and television in Pakistan and abroad. Haseena Moin was also awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence by the Government of Pakistan.
Haseena Moin was born on November 20, 1941 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She received her early education at home and after the partition of India her family settled in Rawalpindi but soon they moved to Lahore. She came to Karachi in the 50’s.
She did her Masters in History from Karachi University in 1963. She’s the writer of several Pakistani hit dramas like:
- Ankahi
- Tanhaiyaan
- Kiran Kahani,
- Dhoop Kinaray
- Aahat,
- Uncle Urfi
- Shehzori
- Kohar
- Des Pardes
- Pal Do Pal
- Aansoo
- Kasak
- Parchaiyan
- Parosi
Haseena Moin also wrote dialogues for the Indian film Henna at the behest of Raj Kapoor, which was released in 1991. On August 14, 1987, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Excellence by the Government of Pakistan.
Condolences also poured in from all quarters over sad demise of Haseena Moin.
Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) member of the National Assembly (MNA) Andleeb Abbas shared a tribute to the late artist as he tweeted: “What a loss…Haseena Moin who created such world class life stories is no more…She gave women a new empowered strength and made Indian Bollywood pale in comparison….Her legacy will remain.”
