Olympics 2020: Europeans Take Gold Medal in BMX

Friday started off with the start of tracks and events at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, with one medal up for grabs today in the men’s 10,000 meters.

It is the last event of the evening session.

There were several records made today at the games. Here is the record of who won today:

BMX

Bethany Shriever of Great Britain has once again defeated Mariana Pajon of Colombia for a third straight gold medal in BMX racing.

Shriever took the lead from the start and held off Pajon at the finish in her first Olympics. Dutch rider Merel Smulders took bronze.

Niek Kimmann of the Netherlands won the gold medal in the men’s race, edging Great Britain’s Kye Whyte at the finish line. Carlos Ramirez Yepes of Colombia took bronze.

After a dramatic collision in the third semifinal heat, reigning men’s gold medalist Connor Fields of the United States failed not to advance to the finals.

After crashing on the first turn, he was carried away on a stretcher and placed into an ambulance. He is “conscious and awaiting further medical evaluation,” according to a doctor.

Shooting

Russian shooter Vitalina Batsarashkina won her second gold and third medal of the Tokyo Olympics, beating Korea’s Kim Minjung in a shoot-off in women’s 25-meter pistol.

Batsarashkina tied with Kim with 38 points and won by shoot-off 4-1. China’s Xiao Jiaruxuan took bronze.

Swimming

Tatjana Schoenmaker of South Africa established the first individual world record in the Tokyo Olympics.

She won the women’s 200-meter breaststroke in 2 minutes, 18.95 seconds, beating Denmark’s Rikke Moller Pedersen’s world record of 2:19.11 set at the 2013 world championships in Barcelona.

The other two medals went to the United States.

At the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, it was the third world record, with the first two coming in women’s relays.

On the men’s side, China’s Wang Shun won the gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley at Olympics 2020. He edged Britain’s Duncan Scott with a time of 1 minute, 55.00 seconds. Scott took the silver in 1:55.28, while the bronze went to Switzerland’s Jeremy Desplanches in 1:56.17.

McKeon becomes the second only to break the 52-second by completing 100-meter freestyle in 51.96 seconds.

Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey claimed the silver in 52.27, while Aussie Cate Campbell took the bronze in 52.52.

Russia’s Evgeny Rylov won the 200-meter backstroke by making a new record of 1 minute and 53.29 seconds.

The silver went to American Ryan Murphy in 1:54.15, while Britain’s Luke Greenbank grabbed the bronze in 1:54.72.

Rowing

New Zealand won the men’s eight in the final rowing event of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, holding off a late assault from Germany over the final 250 meters.

Late in the competition, Great Britain came back to win bronze.

Canada has won the gold medal in the women’s eight rowing event. They jumped out to an early lead, then held off New Zealand in the final 200 meters to claim victory.

China came in third place, earning the bronze medal.

Stefanos Ntouskos of Greece won the men’s single sculls at the Sea Forest Waterway with a strong closing burst over the final 250 meters.

Kjetil Borch of Norway won silver. Damir Martin of Croatia came back late to win bronze.

Emma Twigg of New Zealand won gold in the women’s single sculls. She jumped out to an early lead, then dominated the final 500 meters with a sprint.

Twigg, who had finished fourth in the previous two Olympics, handily defeated Hanna Prakatsen of Russia, who had won silver at the Sea Forest Waterway.

Austria’s Magdalena Lobnig won bronze.
