LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat on Wednesday expressed grave concern over the rising incidents of violence against women across the province.

Presiding over the 82nd meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore, Basharat told the participants that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has also expressed concerns regarding the situation.

“Reports from all over the province were suggesting that crimes against women have increased in recent times and concrete steps should be taken instead of seminars to curb these crimes,” said Basharat.

The law enforcement personnel in the meeting were warned that denial or delay in registration of FIR against such incidents would not be tolerated by the administration. He directed the new IG Punjab and prosecution secretary to present complete details of arrests, challans and investigations of cases involving violence against women at the next meeting.
