Hiring son in place of father against merit: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD:  The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday gave an important decision regarding the government employees’ blood relations who pass away during services.

During hearing Supreme Court remarked that only those will be eligible for government services whose fathers died after 2005.

The Prime Minister’s package does not apply to the children of government employees who died before 2005, the court said

Chief Justice remarked that the law to award government jobs to sons on the place of their fathers is very strange. “Government offices are not something to be inherited,” he said and added that giving jobs like this completely eliminates merit.

Additional Attorney General said that the Prime Minister’s package has been in force since 2005.

Chief Justice then remarked that this law was made for low-income employees but the children of officers have been getting the benefit.

Justice Mazhar Alam Mian Khel remarked that initially, the law was for police and other martyrs.

Chief Justice remarked that ASI’s son demanding to get DSP’s post directly does not make any sense.

The petitioner Siraj Muhammad had applied for recruitment in place of his father which was rejected by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Peshawar High Court later ordered to recruit Siraj Muhammad in place of his father. The Supreme Court, however, dismissed the decision of the Peshawar High Court.
