Four persons have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of preparing to create “civil war conditions” in order to topple democracy.

Prosecutors claim the organization, which is tied to far-right and anti-Covid activities, planned to damage power plants in order to bring about a statewide blackout.

They also sought to kidnap Germany’s health minister, who was a supporter of the country’s tight coronavirus regulations.

On Thursday, the gang is scheduled to appear before a court.

A fifth suspect has yet to be apprehended.

Investigators have identified 12 persons they believe are linked to the group, which communicated over the Telegram messaging service.

The organization aimed to attack substations and power lines, ruining the country’s energy infrastructure, according to TV news show Report Mainz.

The goal, according to the prosecutor’s office, was to produce a long-term statewide power outage “intended to cause conditions close to civil war and ultimately to overturn Germany’s democratic system,” according to a statement.

A number of high-profile individuals were also purportedly identified as possible kidnap victims.

Two of the defendants are suspected of plotting to assassinate Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.
