Russian soldier’s life savings stolen after phone goes missing in Ukraine

AFTER LOSING HIS PHONE IN UKRAINE, AN INJURED Russian soldier had his whole life savings taken from his bank account.

Denis, the contract soldier from Krasnodar, was injured and lost his phone while on a combat mission in Ukraine. He was repatriated to Russia and is now receiving treatment at a facility in the Samara Oblast. However, someone later discovered his phone in Ukraine and used the banking app on it to access his account at Russia’s Promsvyaz bank.

The thief was able to deplete Denis’ account of 2.6 million rubles (£26,171), leaving the wounded soldier out of pocket.

His wife was apparently enraged and has filed a police report in Russia, requesting an inquiry.

The account of the Russian soldier’s misfortune elicited little compassion from social media users.

One wrote: “I want to feel bad but then I think of the potting, rape, and murders and, well, I got nothing.”

While another said: “I don’t feel sorry for the guy but it’s too bad it wasn’t Putin’s personal bank account that wasn’t drained.”

A third commented: “He’s lucky he only lost his life savings when so many Ukrainians are losing so much more.”
