Amber Heard envious of Johnny Depp’s friendship with Paul Bettany and considered him as a ‘threat’

Depp said during defamation trial that Amber Heard envied Johnny Depp’s “immediate connection” with his friend, actor Paul Bettany, and saw him as a “threat” to their relationship.

Depp claims that on his fourth day on the witness stand, his ex-wife acted angrily if he paid too much attention to the “Wandavision” actor.

Depp said, “Ms. Heard despised Mr. Bettany because we had become such close friends,”

“For her, he was a threat and would take me away from her.”

“If Paul Bettany was getting the attention from me, that was a showstopper,”

He added, “It would cause all kinds of unpleasantries.”

Depp has been testifying in his case against Heard at the trial. He sued her in 2019, while stating that she defamed him in a Washington Post op-ed by presenting herself as a victim of domestic abuse. Depp claims that Heard mistreated him physically and verbally, not the other way around. Heard has disputed the charges and filed a countersuit, stating that Depp sexually abused her on at least ten occasions.

Depp claims he met Bettany on the set of their 2010 film “The Tourist” and the two quickly became friends.

Text conversations between them were used as evidence in the trial, as well as in a previous one in the UK, in which Depp lost a case against a British tabloid that sided with Heard.

In the text messages, Depp discussed about consuming copious amounts of drugs and alcohol. The two also exchanged messages about drowning and burning Heard.

“Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead,” Depp wrote in one text message.

The communications’ disclosures were “embarrassing” and “without context,” according to Bettany. Depp’s lawyers claim that the references to “Monty Python” were made in jest. On Monday, Depp testified that the two performers became friends because of “Monty Python” and dry British humor.

“That was one of the things we connected on,” Depp said. “Even if it was an unpleasant situation, we would do our best to deal with it with humor as opposed to a constant complaint, or whining.”

But the relationship between Heard and Bettany, Depp testified, was “abominable.”

Depp recalled an incident in which he and Heard were on an island with Bettany, his wife, actress Jennifer Connelly, and their four children. Bettany and Heard were disputing an issue when Heard got “very unpleasant” and “mean,” according to Depp, and talked over Bettany.

Bettany’s 18-year-old stepson entered the conversation at some time, according to Depp.

“Ms. Heard demeaned that young man to the point where he burst into tears and walked away,” Depp said.
