Mosaddek Hossain has been added to Bangladesh’s team for the first Test against Sri Lanka, which begins on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

After Nayeem Hasan, who stepped in as a replacement for injured Mehidy Hasan, the Bangladesh hitter became team’s second addition.

This change will help Bangladesh’s batting line-up in what will be a crucial series for the hosts, who are currently languishing near the bottom of the World Test Championship 2021-23 table.

Mosaddek isn’t a regular for Bangladesh in longer format, having last played a Test match in Chattogram in 2019.

In total, he has appeared in three Tests, accumulating 164 runs at a 41.00 average.

His selection, on the other hand, will provide Bangladesh with some useful overs, as he is a capable part-time spinner.

Habibul Bashar, a member of the senior men’s squad selection panel, confirmed Mosaddek’s admission.

“Mosaddek got injured after playing two first-class games,” Habibul explained, “therefore he was unable to play in the National Cricket League or the Bangladesh Cricket League.”

“We’ve included him because we believe that if we play four bowlers, we’ll need someone to bat down the order.”

The teams will play a two-match Test series, with first match scheduled for May 15-19 in Chattogram.

Second match will take place in Dhaka from May 23 to 27.
