Jose Mourinho, who is approaching his 60th birthday, has stated that he has more to give to world football.
Mourinho stated ahead of their Conference League final against Feyenoord that quality knows no age.
“Quality is timeless. The same is true for players. There are guys who are terrific at 20 and players who are fantastic at 40,” Roma manager Claudio Ranieri explained.
On Wednesday, 18 May, Mourinho, 59, was asked if critics had been too ready to dismiss him and Carlo Ancelotti, 62, as managers.
While Mourinho led Roma to their first Conference League final since 1991, Ancelotti led Real Madrid to the Champions League final despite an injury-plagued squad.
Real’s season has been an inspiration so far, with a stunning second-half triumph over Manchester City in the tournament’s semi-finals.
After their 4-3 loss at the Etihad, Ancelotti predicted success and stated that he believes in the Bernabeu’s magic and that the fans should expect something extraordinary.
The Madrid-based side will face Liverpool, whom they had previously defeated in an infamous Champions League match.
Both coaches arrived at their current teams following tumultuous spells at Tottenham (Mourinho) and Everton (Ancelotti).
Mourinho addressed the issue, claiming that the problem stems from people’s perspectives.
“Carlo’s dilemma was that if you coach Everton, you will almost certainly not win the Champions League.”
“People interpreted that as me taking on jobs in order to win, but it wasn’t about winning,” Mourinho explained.
“People can say those things when you have a track record of accomplishment – it doesn’t affect me.”
“You’re done when you don’t have the passion any longer. If you don’t feel any pressure before these games, you’re finished,” Mourinho continued.
“I know that for myself, and I’m familiar with Carletto (Ancelotti). It’s up to us to determine when we’re done when you’ve got the desire and the quality.”
“We shall be the ones to determine when to stop. However, I believe you will have to wait along. Because that isn’t going to happen anytime soon,” the manager said.
