Sarbaz Khan become first Pakistani to climb 10 peaks of 8000 meters

Sarbaz Khan, a mountaineer from the Hunza district of Gilgit-Baltistan, has become the first Pakistani mountaineer to climb 10 of the 14 peaks of the world at an altitude of 8,000 meters after climbing Kanchenjunga today.

According to Secretary Alpine Club of Pakistan Karar Haideri, Sarbaz Khan climbed the third highest peak in the world at 8,586 meters high at 7:00 am on Saturday.

Sarbaz Khan had set up a base camp on April 5 at an altitude of 5,500 meters. He is on a mission to climb 14 of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters.

Sarbaz Khan, 32, hails from the Aliabad area of ​​Hunza in Gilgit-Baltistan and started his mountaineering career in 2016. In 2019, he climbed 8,516 meters in Nepal, the fourth highest in the world without the use of supplementary oxygen. Became the first Pakistani to climb Mount Lotse.

He climbed the 8,125-meter-high Nanga Parbat in 2017, 2 of the 8,611-meter-high in 2018, and the 8,163-meter-high Broad Peak in 2019. Earlier this year, he climbed the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna mountain. He climbed Mount Everest at 8,848 meters and Geyser Bram at 8,035 meters. In 4 of these expeditions, he accompanied the late Muhammad Ali Sadpara.

The soldier’s goal is to become the first Pakistani to climb 14 of the world’s highest peaks. He plans to head to Makalu this month and the G-1 this summer, but Chu Oyo and Shishapangma have not yet decided.

Saad Munawar, tour organizer of Pakistani campaign ‘Kanchan Janga 2022’ said that Alhamdulillah! Fakhr-e-Pakistan Sarbaz Khan reached the summit at 7 am local time. Talking from there, Sarbaz thanked the entire nation for their support and requested prayers for his safe return.

“There was a time when Pakistani climbers were not allowed to climb the mountains in their own country and now Pakistani climbers are moving on foreign soil, we have come a long way,” he said. Praise be to ALLAH.

He added, “But our journey is not over yet. In fact, we have just started. We will continue to work for the development and promotion of the mountaineering sector in Pakistan. Climbers will have the opportunity to climb mountains all over the world.
