Sarah Everard’s murderer registered a not guilty plea

Wayne Couzens, the killer of Sarah Everard, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent exposure.

The 49-year-old former police officer is accused of flashing in Swanley, Kent, in January and February of last year.

The most recent of the alleged encounters occurred four days before he abducted Ms Everard.

Couzens arrived before the Old Bailey via video connection from Frankland jail in Durham, wearing a grey sweatshirt and sporting a white beard.

He “deliberately exposed his genitals intending for someone to view them and be alarmed and distressed,” according to the charges.

He confirmed his identification and disputed the allegations.

A trial date has not yet been determined, but hearings will resume at the Old Bailey on November 1 for three days.

Couzens chose a crown court trial over a magistrates’ court hearing, therefore the matter was moved to the central London court.

Sarah Everard, 33, was slain by Couzens in March 2021 after she was detained and arrested in south London on the pretext of breaking lockdown regulations.

Her burnt remains was later discovered in a pond near his Kent wooded property.

Couzens is also appealing his life sentence, which means he will die in prison, in a separate case.
