DPMETAWORLD is a new effort launched by DP World, a leading global end-to-end logistics service, to deliver cutting-edge virtual solutions to real-world supply chain difficulties.
Supply chains are transitioning from analogue to digital across the industries in which DP World participates. This initiative will enable DP World to lead the acceleration of this trend by utilising the metaverse’s untapped powers to drive efficiency and transparency.
The platform is expected to launch by the end of 2022, and DP World is currently in discussions with best-in-class technology partners to assist in the development of the platform and the implementation of our creative solutions.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World, made the news during the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos.
“At DP World, we don’t respond to change – we think forward and anticipate it,” Bin Sulayem remarked of the occasion. We already know that future industries will be mind-based rather than hand-based. As a result, in order to embrace this transformation, we must adopt industry-leading solutions and technologies.
“By expanding into the metaverse, we will not only improve customer experience and operational efficiency, but we will also become more sustainable and robust in the future.” All of our global activities rely on them.”
DPMETAWORLD’s operations extend beyond social media and entertainment, which are often linked with the metaverse, to include education, government services, and trade. With operations spanning six continents, 80 ports, and a variety of logistical operations, DP World is uniquely positioned to assist customers in accelerating the flow of commodities into its logistics networks.
“The DPMETAWORLD will allow us to provide extremely flexible, cost-effective supply chain solutions,” stated Mike Bhaskaran, DP World’s Group Chief Operating Officer of Digital Technology. For our customers, the true benefit is being able to observe and comprehend the entire supply chain from beginning to finish, with complete visibility, and design alternate routes in the event of logistics bottlenecks. We are ecstatic to be able to offer these.
DP World will investigate metaverse uses for its services, such as warehouse and terminal operations simulations in so-called digital twins — 3D virtual replicas of physical assets — and container and vessel inspections.
Other customer-centric applications include increased retail market access, which has the ability to open up DP World’s 1600+ showrooms at the Dubai Traders Market to an endless number of customers via an immersive shopping experience.
Internally, DP World’s employees will be able to take use of fully immersive virtual training. More than 10,000 personnel were trained at its Port & Terminal Training Centre in Jebel Ali in 2021, for a total of close to 34,880 training days.
Replacing physical training with an immersive metaverse alternative will cut the time it takes to train operations teams in half, lowering expenses while also enhancing efficiency and safety, and saving over 17,000 training days in the UAE alone.
DPMETAWORLD will further the firm’s ‘Our World, Our Future’ strategy, which symbolises its historic vision for a better, more fair world, in addition to providing major benefits to our consumers.
By substituting physical travel with virtual training, the digital twins will minimise carbon emissions. It also relates to its ‘People’ pillar, providing new possibilities for people who were previously unemployed.
