Chief Justice of IHC Athar Minallah conducted hearing on a plea submitted by Pakistani famous singer and social activist Shahzad Roy against physical punishment of children in schools.
During the hearing, Shahzad Roy told the court that torturing students at schools now become trend in Pakistan.
He urged that this practice must banned for better development of our children.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court Chief Justice questioned about the legislation on the bill passed against student assault. Islam also doesn’t allow anyone to torture a kid. This mindset has to be changed at any cost, he remarked.
The court further said that he decision on the petition announced in next hearing on March 30.
Islamabad High Court Bans physical punishment
Islamabad High Court (IHC) banned physical punishment of children in schools.
As per details, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by Pakistani famous singer, social activist and Zindagi Trust President Shehzad Roy against student torture in the educational institutions.
During the hearings, Roy’s counsel told that court that students subjected to brutal torture by teachers and school managements which directly affects the mental growth of children.
Justice Athar remarked a bill highlighting this issue also approved in the National Assembly (NA) on which, the lawyer informed that the legislation process delayed due to political matters.
Meanwhile, the judge has also directed the interior ministry to take steps for prevention of school punishment under article 14 of the Constitution.
Moreover, the hearing adjourned till March 5 today.
