A Bellevue family who lost their home after driven off the foundation by a landslide in January filed a lawsuit against the city on Wednesday
The case, filed in King County Superior Court, argues the city was negligent in failing to notify the Surdi family about deteriorating water lines or lessen the danger of the pipes failing. In the end, the family filed the lawsuit again their own city.
John Surdi claims, he awoke on January 17 after a neighbor called to report water spilling down his driveway. He went to a neighboring parking lot as his nearly 20-year-old home slipped off its foundation and partially collapsed.

On March 9, the family filed a $5 million lawsuit against the city. Previously, the city stated that a natural landslide might have caused the pipe to burst. According to municipal spokeswoman Brad Harwood, the city has not reacted to the accusation.
