Reeves decided early on that the tale of The Batman would take place when Bruce Wayne is still at the beginning of his career as an after-hours vigilante, and Pattinson is one of the youngest actors to play Batman on the big screen. One of the director’s guiding principles, according to Batman’s production designer, James Chinlund, was that everything in Batman’s technology should have a handcrafted feel.

“For us, it was the sense that Bruce was making everything himself — that you could feel his touch in everything,” says Chinlund, who also built the film’s redesigned Batmobile. “To get things done, he wasn’t relying on the military-industrial complex. There was only one man and one mission.”

Dillon said the same thing about the Batsuit in an interview with Esquire UK earlier this year. “Matt explained that it was supposed to represent Batman’s second year, and he wanted it to feel like it had been worn before, moving away from the much more stylized, flashy kind of stuff,” he said. “The tight rubber necks of the previous Batsuits bothered Dave and me. We wanted to make something that you could genuinely fight in.”

Crossman explained how all of Batman’s weapons, from his grapple rifle to his Batarang, would have a functional role in the costume in a separate interview with the Motion Picture Association’s website, The Credits. He continues, “Everything had a purpose and nothing was wasted.” “With nothing left behind, we tried to apply that to every piece on the Batsuit.” The Bat-shaped chest insignia, for example, isn’t just for show; it’s been sharpened on the ends to serve as a knife in close-quarters battle.

Let’s move on from the Bat and look at the Cat. Selina’s vigilante suit is also handmade, as she hasn’t yet started her lucrative career as a cat thief when The Batman begins. Jacqueline Durran, the character’s costume designer, handled the character’s new style, which Kravitz has described as “very fantastic” in interviews. In place of Michelle Pfeiffer’s sophisticated leather attire from Batman Returns, this Selina dons a more rugged outfit that may be described as biker chic.
