After filming scenes for the show’s finale, Kylie Minogue characterised her return to the Neighbours set as “emotional.”
The 54-year-old music artist shot to stardom after participating in an Australian soap opera in 1986.
She stated that, despite her prior acting experience, the show was her “big break” and played a significant part in her career.
Speaking about her time in the soap, Kylie added: “I started acting some years before that but my kind of big break and I guess how I became a household name was through Neighbours in 1986, so many moons ago.”
The 54-year-old tempered fan expectations by saying her appearance would be “blink and you’ll miss me,” but word of her return circulated rapidly and took on “a life of its own.”
The closing scenes of Neighbours, which premiered in 1985 and depicts the lives of those who live and work in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, were shot last week.
When Channel 5 announced in February that the long-running soap will be dropped from its lineup, questions rapidly arose about whether the show’s creators, Fremantle Media, would be able to find a new home.
After approximately 9,000 episodes, 63 weddings, 20 babies, and 68 deaths, the show was revealed to be terminating soon after.
Kylie said of her return: “It was emotional going back to the set and felt beautiful actually, the fact that we could see each other.
“I haven’t seen these people in, some of them for over 30 years.
“And, you know, life passes by and we’ve all gone through different stuff. And just to kind of be face-to-face and say, wow, this is part of our history. It was great.”
For the last episode, Minogue and her co-star Jason Donovan, 54, will reprise their roles as Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell, respectively.
Scott and Charlene were played by the couple until their exits in 1989 and 1988, respectively.
When their wedding episode initially broadcast in Australia in 1987, it drew in over two million viewers, and when it was televised in the UK in 1988, it drew in about 20 million.

Hollywood luminaries including Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth, Guy Pearce, and Russell Crowe got their start on the show.
The last episode, which will air on August 1, will see fan favourites from the show’s history return to the cul-de-sac community of Ramsay Street to say their goodbyes.
