The Afghan News Agency said that 255 people were killed and over 500 were injured after an earthquake slammed the eastern region of Afghanistan early Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey says that the 6.1-magnitude earthquake happened 44 kilometres southwest of Khost, Afghanistan.
According to local sources, the earthquake has destroyed scores of homes in the region and triggered landslides in Paktika.
