All the fighter jet scenes in Joseph Kosinski’s film are real and feature F-18 Navy jets. This makes the movie better. Cruise, Teller, Barbaro, Powell, and the rest of the cast struggled to shoot without CGI.

Each multimillion-dollar jet’s cockpit had six IMAX-quality cameras. According to Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, four cameras looked back at the actor and two looked forward. With two jets in the air, there were always 12 cameras in use, not counting cameras on the ground and outside.

On one day, 26 cameras were rolling, and 813 hours of aerial footage were shot; two hours were used. Editors deserve praise. It’s amazing how far Tom Cruise and the cast went for this film.
