After a lengthy layoff owing to injuries, legendary tennis star Serena Williams returns to play at Wimbledon in 2022. Formerly believed to be contemplating retirement, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has returned to the coveted competition.
In 2016, the 40-year-old tennis champion won the women’s singles at the All England Club six times. Her comeback is one of this year’s tournament’s most anticipated early thrills.
Fans, however, have seen that the athlete has been wearing black tape on her face throughout competitions.
The Times reports that the little strips of tape on Williams’ face are medical tape intended to alleviate the 40-year-sinus old’s troubles. Williams used the tape to aid her performance when she reached the doubles quarterfinals at a previous tournament in Eastbourne.
Serena did disclose her physical condition in 2007. Speaking to reporters at the launch of a sinus medication awareness campaign, the celebrity stated: “My secret’s out. I’m a sinus sufferer. Playing tennis or pretty much-doing anything every day is not easy when you have sinuses.”
