ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to hold a political gathering at the Parade Ground on Saturday (today) against the government and the unprecedented hike in inflation.

In a late-night development, PTI chairman Imran Khan visited the venue to inspect the arrangements. A large number of party supporters including women and children reached the venue one day before the event.

On Saturday morning, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, Omar Ayub Khan and others visited the venue and inspected arrangements.

Asad Umar said the government made all efforts to spoil the event but the authorities designated the event for public gatherings after directives from the Islamabad High Court.

He said no party has ever held a rally on such a large ground except Imran Khan. He said their team worked overnight and made the best possible arrangements. He urged all party workers to reach the venue on time.

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will hold a rally at his Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi led by his nephew Rashid Shafique before reaching the venue.

Large screens installed

The party has announced the schedule of the event. PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s address will be shown live on large screen in other cities from Parade Ground at 7:00 PM.

A large screen has also been installed at Sea View in Karachi while another will be installed at Sukkur Press Club Dolphin Chowk and Hyderabad Press Club.

In Lahore, the speech will shown at PP-158 Main Market Gulberg. PP-167 Allahu Chowk Johar Town, PP-168 Ashiana Road, and PP- 170 Abu Bakar Chowk, Wapda Town.

Islamabad police deployed a well-equipped contingent of police in and around Red Zone. More than 10,000 teargas shells were also provided to the police to deal with any law and order situation.

The Staff Duties Directorate at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi has also permitted the PTI to organise its public gathering at Parade Ground.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has given permission to the PTI to hold public gathering at Parade Ground subject to several conditions.

According to a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by ICT administration, PTI Islamabad President Ali Nawaz Awan had submitted an undertaking with regard to the terms and condition to be followed by the organizsers of the public gathering.

The organisers would be responsible for security and discipline of the participants. he conditions include that the gathering shall not disturb the fundamental rights of the citizens of Islamabad and the adjoining areas and no road including Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road and service roads shall be blocked.

The party assured that the gathering shall end at 12:00 midnight. No object (lethal/non-lethal) would be wielded by any of the participants of the gathering. The participants shall disperse peacefully.

The PTI also assured the district administration that the participants shall not enter the restricted Red Zone. The organisers also assured that children under the age of 18 years will not be allowed at the venue.

It added that CCTV cameras shall be installed at the venue and location of the cameras and the control room shall be intimated to the ICT administration.
