On Monday in New York, Prince Harry  will appear in public with Meghan Markle as the Duke of Sussex addresses the UN General Assembly in honor of Nelson Mandela Day.

After visiting the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, this will be the couple’s first public outing.
In October 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Johannesburg, South Africa, where they were greeted by Graca Machel, Mr. Mandela’s widow.

At the time, Ms. Machel claimed she could sense the energy and was confident she and the Sussexes would collaborate in the future.

However, prominent royal commentator and author of Harry’s biography Angela Levin has criticized the news of the prince’s speech.

In a tweet posted online today (July 12), Ms. Levin asserted: “On Monday in the UK, Harry will give a speech about Nelson Mandela. Would he have understood that he couldn’t wait to depart without being a member of the royal family?”

In 2020, Harry and Meghan left their positions as senior royals and relocated to California.

The announcement has also received criticism from GB News’ Eamonn Holmes.

He said, “How has Prince Harry been invited to the United Nations?” to begin a part of his programme.

He said, “What’s he got to say that will change the world, or influence the world,” when informed that Harry was a “name” and a former member of the Royal Family.
