Asad Umar met Shahbaz Gill in Adiala Jail.
RAWALPINDI: PTI General Secretary and senior leader Asad Umar on Wednesday met incarcerated Shahbaz Gill at the Adiala Jail.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Asad Umar reaffirmed allegations that Shahbaz Gill was tortured by the Islamabad Police to give a confessional statement against PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
During the meeting, Asad Umar said Gil had no issues at Adiala Jail but was tortured during police custody in Islamabad. He said efforts are being made to receive Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand to send him back to Islamabad and pressurize him once again.
He said Gill’s statement was shown on TV while his mobile phone was also recovered. Therefore, he said there was no purpose for Gill’s remand other than receiving a false confession.
He said during the meeting in jail, Shahbaz Gill was assured that the PTI will provide him full legal support. He denied giving any message from PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Earlier today, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also claimed that the police have been demanding an extension in remand of Shahbaz Gill for custodial torture.
He said that the PTI leaders were being threatened for meeting with the arrested PTI leader, adding that Pakistan lacks basic human rights.
He hoped that court will issued the right decision and not provide any further physical remand of Shahbaz Gill. He also demanded a judicial commission to be set up for inquiry against the custodial torture of Gill.
A day earlier, Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar vehemently denied reports that Shahbaz Gill was stripped and tortured in jail.
Dogar said he will meet PTI Chairman Imran Khan and apprise him about Shahbaz Gill’s health condition. “I met Shahbaz Gill and he was alive and kicking. There was no question of stripping and torturing him,” he maintained.
The allegations on stripping Shahbaz Gill was made by PTI chief Imran Khan in an interview with a private TV channel. Imran Khan had said that a party lawyer, who had met Shahbaz Gill, told him about being beaten in custody.
During his appearance in court after being arrested, Shahbaz Gill had also claimed that he was tortured in police custody to give a statement against Imran Khan. He also claimed that his medical tests were not been conducted.
