Largest super moon of 2020 stunned people across the world, amid the coronavirus lock down. The moon now enters Australian skies.
What is a supermoon?
According to details, a supermoon appears when the moon is especially close to Earth when it is full. The full moon appears nearest to earth becomes up to 144 bigger and 30% brighter than the moon far from our planet.
An astrologer Richard Nolle had given the name “Supermoon” in 1979. NASA says that the media uses this term more often today to explain what astronomers say about a perigean full moon that occurs at a time when the moon reaches the closest point near the Earth.
Why do we call it “pink supermoon”?
Old Farmer’s Almanac says that the supermoon in April linked with the early springtime blooms of Phlox subulata, a pink wildflower native to eastern North America. That wildflower is described as creeping phlox or moss phlox. In general, it is called “moss pink”.
