The main theme of Apple TV+’s original movie ‘Sharper’ is that nothing is as it seems in New York.

The movie’s first teaser, which features an ensemble cast led by Academy Award winner Julianne Moore, was made public by the streaming service (Still Alice, Boogie Nights).

The movie, which will have a limited theatrical run on February 10 before making its global Apple TV+ debut on February 17, is directed by Benjamin Caron (Andor).

The teaser focuses more on the ensemble cast and the enigmatic nature of New York City than it does on the plot.

Along with Moore, John Lithgow (The Old Man), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Brianna Middleton are featured in the advertisement (The Tender Bar). The movie features Darren Goldstein from Ozark as well.

Sharper “unfolds within the secrets of New York City, from the penthouses of Fifth Avenue to the shadowy corners of Queens. When nothing is as it seems, motives are ambiguous and expectations are upended.”

Screenplay co-written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, who have also written for Comrade Detective and Superstore, is directed by Caron.

The Black List from 2020, an annual compilation of well-liked screenplays that haven’t yet been produced, featured the Sharper script. The movie is being released by A24.

Moore’s second project with A24 is Sharper, in which she stars as the lead in When You Finish Saving the World alongside Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things).

Jesse Eisenberg, who directed The Social Network, gave that movie its successful Sundance Film Festival debut earlier this year. When You Finish Saving the World has not yet received a wide release date.

Sharper will follow a busy fall and winter for the streaming service, which has been busy growing its library of original movies.

Later this month, the service will debut Causeway, a drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry, and Spirited, a musical comedy starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

Emancipation, an Antoine Fuqua-directed drama about slavery starring Will Smith, will be released in December.

Other movies that Apple has in development for 2023 include Argylle from Matthew Vaughn, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

Prior to a global release on Apple TV+ on February 17, Sharper will debut in a few theatres on February 10.
