After the groom kissed her in front of 300 guests, the bride called off her wedding. The bride also reported the groom to the police. The bride reportedly left the dais after the groom kissed her after exchanging garlands on Tuesday.

The bride, 23, said the groom kissed her to win a bet with his friends, and she was “doubtful about his character”. The pair married at UP Samuhik Vivah Yojana 2022 on November 26.

Both parties were escorted to the police station, where the bride initially ignored the groom’s unwanted contact.

“When he kissed me, I felt insulted. He did not care about my self-respect and misbehaved in front of several guests,” she said.

Police tried to intervene, but the bride refused, thus the wedding was cancelled and the guests left.

Her mother stated. “The groom was provoked by his friends. We tried to convince my daughter but she refused to marry him. We have decided to wait for a few days and let her take some time to decide.”

Police added, “Technically the couple is married as the rituals were done by the time the incident happened. We will decide what to do after waiting for a couple of days for things to cool down.”

In similar situations, brides in Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri cancelled their nuptials when the grooms danced the Nagin.
