The Great Gama: Details of Nasir Adeeb’s new film on great Pakistani wrestler

The Great Gama:  A new movie based on the life of renowned Pakistani wrestler Gama Pehlwan is reportedly in the works with veteran Pakistani scriptwriter Nasir Adeeb, following the huge success of Bilal Lashari’s movie about the fictional cult classic hero Maula Jatt.

Gama, known to the uninitiated as Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, was India’s undisputed wrestling champion during the early 20th century. He was born in a conventional Kashmiri Muslim household in 1878. Gama had a reputation for winning fights against his opponents within the first few minutes. During the height of his youth, he also challenged a number of national and international players and defeated them.

“People are not expecting an ordinary film from me after Maula Jatt,” Adeeb told. “The Great Gama” would try to live up to the legendary wrestler’s flamboyant aura. The movie will include genuine incidents from his life, but we’ll change the rest of the plot to fit them in.

“This is not a documentary we are producing. We are producing a movie, he added.

Adeeb, who is writing the script and has been doing extensive research on the subject, said that he came up with the idea for a Gama biopic because the late wrestler’s life hasn’t been depicted on the big screen in Pakistan.

In India, a book on him has been released, according to Adeeb. “It will be brought here, we promise. I’ve already read all of Google’s information about him.

Shayan Khan, the project’s producer, said about the character: “I felt him to be a very engaging character. Gama’s perseverance inspires me greatly, in my opinion. Our young people may learn from it that anything is feasible if we put our minds to it. Gama traveled the globe while demonstrating the power of our area.

In addition to Pakistan, we will also have locations in Europe and North America, he declared. The use of as many cast and crew members from Pakistan as possible is our aim.

The movie, which had a global cast and crew and was shot abroad, should be released in 2023.
