Texas thieves return stolen gifts after parents find out returned to the same address—but not for the reason you might expect.
The unique episode made headlines when the porch pirates (those who steal goods delivered to other people’s houses) returned each stolen item to the Clarks in the northeast Houston suburb of Humble after being “persuaded” to do so by their parents.
“I’m proud of those young ladies who did that and their parents for saying hey look you guys made a mistake, not saying it’s right but you guys have to go make it right to some degree,” homeowner Bryan Clark told the source.
Within minutes of the parcels being delivered, his doorbell video captured the porch pirates in action.
A 19-year-old girl suspected of stealing the gifts, which Clark said were for his two nieces and nephew, was detained, along with three other young ladies suspected of assisting her in the theft.
After learning of the crime, their parents allegedly persuaded them to return home, apologise, and return what they had stolen.
“The fact that they were able to say. ‘Okay we’re going to step out – even in fear and do the right thing,’ is big,” Clark stated.
“The level of courage in that, I have to respect. I’ve been a young man before. I’ve made foolish decisions. I think we all have. I believe grace is something given when not deserved, and we have to give it.”
It is not uncommon for petty thieves to steal packages around the holidays, but they are rarely returned to their rightful owners.
