Emma Thompson has learned a few things about herself.

The Best of Luck, The 63-year-old Leo Grande star says in this week’s issue  that she found out she wasn’t as safe as she thought she was. “Even though I’m strong, I can hurt myself because I’m getting older, and that was interesting.”

The actress who played Miss Trunchbull in her new movie, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, says that she broke her ankle when she fell over for no reason while making the movie. “I thought, “That’s strange, I’ve never hurt myself that way before.” Well, that’s because I’m getting older.’ As my body changes, I have to take better care of it.”

Thompson then had to wear a compression boot on the set of Matilda. “I said, ‘I’m so sorry, I have to wear the boot,'” she remembers. “They told him, “It’s fine, you’re just acting today.” I said, ‘What? Just now, I broke my ankle. “It’s okay, we’re just turning you upside down,” they said. “Don’t worry, you’re on a crane.” I said, “Okay, that’s fine.””

The Oscar winner, whose role as Nancy Stokes, a widow who hires a sex worker, in Leo Grande has been praised by critics, sat down with one last thing:
When I last danced, I was throwing a party called the Pointless Party. There’s a band, and we start dancing at 8 and keep going until 1 in the morning. Three weeks ago, we had it, and I danced until my feet hurt.

Last time I took care of myself was when I was sick in London and went to a tiny spa where I just slept and read books for four days. All I did was that, and it was great.

Last guilty pleasure: I can’t say no to cheese very well. When I’m done with a glass of wine and someone asks, “Would you like another?” I find it hard to say, “No, that’s enough for me.”

The last class I took was Italian. It’s good for your mind. It’s a kind of cure for the quickly rotting body.

I wish you luck, Leo Grande is now available to watch on Hulu. Matilda the Musical by Roald Dahl is now playing in theatres and will start streaming on Netflix on Christmas Day.
