LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought a report on the provision of free medicines in hospitals.
Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition related to the unavailability of emergency facilities in government and private hospitals.
Secretary Health Javed Qazi appeared in the court.
Petitioner Dr. Salman Kazmi’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique, argued that the health system has deteriorated over the past three years. The Supreme Court has issued several orders on providing better health facilities.
The petitioner submitted that there are no adequate measures in the emergency yet. Doctors are not available and there is a shortage of ventilators. He requested the court to order to provide better emergency facilities in public and private hospitals.
The court called for a report regarding the provision of free medicines in hospitals and fixing the prices of various tests in private hospitals.
The Lahore High Court while seeking a report from the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) on the next hearing ordered that every effort should be made for better access to health care for the common man. The court will make every possible effort for the betterment of health.
The Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 19.
