KARACHI: Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has predicted cold and dry weather in most parts of the country, while partly cloudy in the upper parts during the next twelve hours.
However, more rain with snow over the mountains is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining areas.
According to the PMD, dense foggy conditions are likely to prevail over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
Temperatures of some major cities recorded are Islamabad eight degree centigrade, Lahore nine, Karachi 18, Peshawar and Muzaffarabad seven, Quetta one, Gilgit and Murree zero degree centigrade.
Earlier, As many as 200 tourists were stranded in Pir Chinasi, a tourist destination, near Muzaffarabad because of snow, Bol News reported.
Bol News quoting police sources as saying that about 30 vehicles of tourists were stuck as roads got slippery because of snowfall. Teams of police and Rescue 1122 have left from Muzaffarabad to rescue the tourists stranded in Pir Chinasi.
“In bad weather, vehicles in mountain terrains become inoperable near Pir Chinasi. Machinery is not available at the tourist destination, therefore the chained machinery has been dispatched,” said police.
Rescue 1122 sources said the deputy commissioner, superintendent police and other civil officials had reached the site. Police said the passengers would be shifted in other vehicles to transport to a safe destination.
On October 26, President Dr Arif Alvi launched the commercial helicopter flight operations of Kashmir Air in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as part of an effort to promote tourism in the region.
