AUS vs SA: PM Anthony Albanese hosted South African and Australian cricket teams

• The annual New Year’s Day Reception was held at Kirribilli House in Sydney.
• The event was co-hosted by the Prime Minister and Jodie Haydon.
• Australia leads the Test series 2-0 after sealing the series at MCG.

The men’s cricket teams from Australia and South Africa were present at the yearly New Year’s Day Reception that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Jodie Haydon held at Kirribilli House in Sydney on Sunday.

The occasion took place prior to the third and final Test Match between Australia and South Africa, which began on January 4. The Australian Men’s Cricket team and their visiting opponent are traditionally hosted for an afternoon tea by the Prime Minister at Kirribilli House on New Year’s Day, returning after a two-year break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

After clinching the Test series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia now leads the series 2-0. In the series finale at Sydney, which will also serve as the location for the yearly Pink Test, both teams will be attempting to increase their prospects of earning a spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

Cricket has a long heritage of welcoming touring teams from around the world to our shores. It is a fantastic day for cricket as it comes before the unique Sydney Pink Test Match.

Cricket can be proud of the contribution it made in assisting the McGrath Foundation and the amazing work they carry out to support breast care nurses all around Australia. We appreciate the South African team’s support of the Pink Test, and we look forward to another competitive match at the SCG, one of cricket’s most recognisable locations, said Dr. Lachlan Henderson, Chair of Cricket Australia.

Former Australia fast-bowler Glenn McGrath and officials of the McGrath Foundation, the Sydney Pink Test’s official charity partner, joined players and their families from both teams.

The Sydney Test has become one of the largest charitable sporting events in the world since 2009 thanks to the collaboration of Cricket Australia, the Sydney Cricket Ground, and the McGrath Foundation.

The Test has contributed to the raising of more than $17 million for the funding of McGrath Breast Care Nurses around Australia thanks to the generosity of the cricket community over the past 15 years.

I’m happy to be back at Kirribilli House in advance of my favourite annual event, the Sydney Pink Test. We are very appreciative to Cricket Australia, the SCG, the Australian people as a whole, and the Australian and South African Men’s Cricket Teams for supporting the Pink Test. Only with this amazing assistance will we be able to continue to raise the monies required to guarantee that no one with breast cancer is denied access to the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, according to McGrath.
