Local tribesmen demanded their due rights from Reko Diq Project.
DALBANDIN: Members of four native tribes have urged the authorities concerned to ensure their engagement in Reko Diq Project, as they claimed to own the area Reko Diq falls in.
Addressing a press conference at Dalbandin Press Club, Zakir Lejahi, Mir Muhammad Shah Dokogi, Maulana Allah Bakhsh Naroi, and others said Barrick Gold Corporation and the government was engaging with the local community by forming a committee, but unfortunately, the native tribes were ignored.
They said the Lejahi, Naroi, Dokogi, and Badoozai tribes were native tribes of Chagai district and the Reko Diq also fall under the ownership of the tribes.
The tribals said they were neither taken into confidence before striking a deal with Barrick Gold Corporation nor they were promised any perks and privileges.
They urged the civil and military leadership to listen to their woes and give them their due rights. “We will protest and raise our voice at every forum if our due rights are not granted,” Lejahi warned.
