Britain warns of 10% fine, legal action against airports sharing confidential information
Following a tip that they were doing so, the competition and aviation regulators in Britain have cautioned airports not to share proprietary information and violate competition rules.
A letter written to airport operators following information on information sharing was made public on Thursday by the Competition and Markets Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority. The operators were not given names.
Despite the extreme difficulties airports experienced during the epidemic, the authorities stated that there was no justification for infractions and that operators were required to guarantee that all staff members were appropriately trained to prevent violations.
The letter asked anybody with concerns about price-fixing or market-sharing agreements to contact the CMA and warned that violations may result in fines of up to 10% of a company’s global sales as well as legal action.
“Please take the time to review your practices and ensure that you and your employees are complying with competition law,” the letter said.
