The International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday that the ICC World Test Championship final for the 2021–23 cycle will take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval in London.

The Oval in London will host the final of the second season of the ICC World Test Championship from June 7 to June 11, with June 12 serving as a reserve day. ICC stated in a press statement.

By defeating India in the 2021 Test championship final in Southampton by an eight-wicket margin, New Zealand took home the title.

Australia is now in first place in the current cycle’s points standings with a respectable percentage of 75.56, followed by India at 58.93.

Beginning on February 9 in Nagpur, the two teams will compete in a critical four-match Test series that will ultimately determine the likely winners.

ICC quotes Australia captain Pat Cummins as saying, “The possibility of participating in the World Test Championship Final has been a significant motivator for us over the previous couple of years, especially now since we missed out on over rates last time.”

While South Africa (48.72%) and Sri Lanka (53.33%), who are in third and fourth place, respectively, still have a chance to participate in the championship game. As part of the continuing cycle, Sri Lanka will play two Tests away from home against New Zealand, while South Africa’s final two will be played at home against the West Indies.

“Sri Lanka has a decent chance of reaching the World Test Championship Final. “We’ve done well to be among the top contenders, and if we can have a solid Test series on the forthcoming New Zealand trip, our prospects of reaching the Final would look more likely,” said Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne.

There is no greater motivation than the idea of competing for prizes in such a historic format at such a historic venue, according to South African Dean Elgar, even though we may have a remote chance of making it to the World Test Championship Final.
