Aamir Khan’s Dil Chahta Hai & Lagaan have a combined box office value of more than Rs 500 crore
Ever since the practise of watching movies on a wide screen was commercialised, box office collections of movies have been monitored. Our culture and our society as a whole have been greatly influenced by movies. The way people watch movies has evolved along with the times, and so have the costs of movie tickets. In twenty years, tickets will cost more than Rs 200 at every multiplex chain, whereas twenty years ago, they would cost less than Rs 30. In this post, we’ll talk about how Aamir Khan provided the film industry two of its most cherished works, Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai, in the year 2001.
In addition to being genre-defining movies of their era, Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan continue to have an impact on viewers now, more than 20 years later. Contrary to other films at the time, which tended to focus more on the glitz and glamour, both films dealt with mature matters and touched upon real personal issues. Both movies were financially successful at the box office and received several awards. While Lagaan was more popular among the general public and subsequently became a front-runner for the Oscars, Dil Chahta Hai received a lot of support from major cities across the nation.
Lagaan sold little less than 2 crore tickets over its whole run, compared to Dil Chahta Hai’s slightly more than 1 crore. In total, the two movies made roughly Rs 45 crore nett back then, but it’s astonishing to see that when Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan are valued at 2023 ticket prices, they will be worth more than Rs 500 crores. For just two movies on average, Rs 500 crores in a year is a highly alluring and encouraging amount at the box office, and if those two movies are Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan, what more could anyone reasonably ask for? In 2023, Dil Chahta Hai earned Rs 175 crore nett whereas Lagaan earned Rs 325 crore nett.
This study doesn’t take into account how these movies will be received at theatres in 2023. They might be worse than what they received in 2001 or they might be better. Few things support it, whereas few things work against it. However, based only on altered ticket prices, they would increase by Rs 500 crore net.
Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan‘s most recent theatrical release, was a financial failure; as a result, the star took a vacation from acting. Aamir Khan‘s followers and admirers have been anxiously awaiting the announcement of his upcoming movie, so it will be interesting to see what he works on next.
