Shoaib Malik says “Amir will lead the Karachi Kings in the bowling attack”
Shoaib Malik, an all-rounder for the Karachi Kings, praised his team’s bowling in advance of the ninth Pakistan Super League (PSL).
While praising the bowling of the Karachi Kings, particularly that of Mohammad Amir and the spinners, Malik stated that they would need to be consistent if they were to succeed.
“Mohammad Amir is a good bowler and has won many matches for Pakistan. He will lead the Karachi Kings in the bowling attack. Also, we have quality spinners, such as Imad Wasim, Tabraiz Shamsi and Imran Tahir, in the lineup as well,” Malik said in a media interaction after the launch of PSL’s new trophy.
The Kings transferred Babar Azam, their captain from the previous season, to Peshawar Zalmi in November 2022 in order to get Malik for PSL 8.
It should be noted that Malik finished fourth in scoring in the seventh PSL season. The batter’s 401 runs were scored at a 36.45 average.
Malik also spoke about the PSL 8’s new trophy, which was unveiled on Thursday at Lahore’s famed Shalimar Garden.
“The trophy should be unveiled at places like Shalimar Garden. Credit goes to everyone for choosing this place. PSL is becoming a bigger brand every year, which is a very good thing,” Malik stated.
On February 14, Peshawar Zalmi will visit the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi to play the Karachi Kings in their PSL season opener.
The PSL 8 opening ceremony will take place in Multan on February 13 before the tournament’s first match between the defending champions Lahore Qalandars and the 2021 champion Multan Sultans; the closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host the play-offs.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
No other team, outside Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans, has advanced to the championship game as the defending champions.
