English rock band The Rolling Stones have asked Donald Trump not to use their songs at his campaign rallies. They warned that he could face legal action.
The band’s legal team issued a statement in which it said that it was working with the BMI, the performing rights organization, to stop the unauthorized use of their songs.
Representatives of the group said in the statement that “further steps to exclude” Trump from using Rolling Stones music in his future campaigns were essential after previous “cease and desist directives” had been ignored.
The BMI had mentioned to the Trump campaign on behalf of the band that the use of their music without consent will form a breach of its licensing agreement, and would be subject to legal action.
The song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” was played at Trump’s campaign that took place last week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Trump had used the same song during the 2016 US election.
The band had tweeted in 2016, “The Rolling Stones do not endorse Donald Trump”.
Earlier this month, the family of Rock musician Tom Petty had issued a letter to the Trump campaign over the use of their song at Tulsa rally.
