HBL PSL8: Ramiz Raja says Mohammad Rizwan is modern-day great
After Mohammad Rizwan’s spectacular century against Karachi Kings on Wednesday, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja referred to the wicketkeeper as a modern-day great.
In four games of the current eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Rizwan managed to reach his first century after scoring three half-centuries. Against the Kings, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 110 runs off just 64 balls. He made four maximums and ten boundaries.
In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Raja said, “Rizwan batted really well to put his team in a strong position. His batting had variety, elegance, and class as he didn’t slog but played good shots. It looked like he would play a bad shot and get out but as always he proved everyone wrong. People say that Rizwan doesn’t bat like a modern-day great but he is a modern-day great. Consistency like his is a big thing in T20 cricket.”
“The best thing that’s happening for Multan Sultans is that their opener Mohammad Rizwan and bowler Ihsanullah are in top form. When your new ball bowler and opener are in form, it becomes almost impossible to lose because these two are an integral part of the core team,” he added.
The former cricketer clarified James Vince’s dismissal following a mix-up with Haider Ali.
“Haider Ali is a young cricketer who will develop as he plays more matches. Running between the wickets suffers when you’re out of shape since your attention isn’t on the task at hand “explained he.
He further asserted that Karachi would have won the game if Haider had shown greater selflessness and given up his wicket to keep Vince at the crease.
He continued, “Haider should take note of it.”
After being given the opportunity to bat first, the Sultans set a lofty goal of 197 before holding the Kings to 193-5 in 20 overs, all owing to Muhammad Rizwan’s amazing century and some outstanding bowling in the final few overs.
In a nail-biting encounter, Abbas Afridi held off 22 runs in the final over to enable his team prevail.
Imad Wasim, the captain, gave it his all, scoring 46 runs off of 26 balls, but it wasn’t enough to cover the distance.
It is important to note that the Sultans have won four straight games after losing their PSL debut on February 13 against the Lahore Qalandars, the defending champions.
At the top of the league standings are the 2021 champions.
The Rizwan-led team’s sixth encounter will take place on Sunday, February 26 at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi. It will be their first away game.
