Full court bench sans Justice Ijaz, Mazahir sought in KP, Punjab elections case
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and counsel Farooq H Naek on Friday expressed reservation on inclusion of Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Naqvi in the nine-member Supreme Court bench hearing the case pertaining to elections in the provincial assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Bol News reported.
“We have nothing personal against Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Naqvi, but they should not be in the full court bench. This is a matter of political nature and it cannot be left unaddressed,” he said.
He said Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel had brought this matter before the court that the suo moto notice over delay in elections of Punjab and KP was taken on suggestion of the two judges, so the PPP also had objection on them.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said the matter would be looked into later. First the apex court would see who the stakeholders were in the case, he added. So, there were four parties stakeholders before us, he said adding that the president would also appear.
Farooq Naek said Kamran Murtaza appeared on behalf of the Jamiat Ulema e Islam-F (JUI-F).
The CJP said representatives of the governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, governor Punjab, Supreme Court Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Council were also present.
The court summoned all the parties for attendance, because its formal hearing would begin on Monday, he maintained.
Advocate Azhar Siddique said he was representing political party of Sheikh Rashid, the Awami Muslim League (AML). Ostensibly pointing towards Pakistan Muslim League-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s statement, he said character assassination of judges was being done.
