Woody Harrelson receives a commemorative jacket from Scarlett Johansson
Woody Harrelson is on-air live from Studio 8H. The 61-year-old actor from the film Champions hosted Saturday Night Live for the fifth time this past weekend, earning him a spot in the venerable Five-Timers Club.
Harrelson mentioned the accomplishment during his opening monologue and extended his arms to collect the commemorative jacket that previous SNL hosts had been given in recognition of the milestone, but he was unsuccessful. “No coat? Okay, “He said, shrugging, and then extended his arms once again at the conclusion of his speech in an effort to secure the article of clothing. “No jacket yet? Alright, well, tonight we have a fantastic show for you “He joked.
But Scarlett Johansson, who is also a member of the Five-Timers Club, gave Harrelson the prized possession at the conclusion of the performance. The actress handed the jacket to Harrelson and exclaimed, “I got you, honey!”
John Mulaney, Melissa McCarthy, Paul Rudd, and others are just a handful of the famous Five-Timers Club members that Harrelson has joined.
Harrelson participated in a number of sketches during the performance, including one in which he portrayed a theme park patron whose companion passes out on a ride and another in which he portrayed an inmate anxiously anticipating his return home to his wife.
Another scene from the play featured the cast making fun of The Whale, in which a director informs his actors that the studio has cancelled their film after they made sacrifices and preparations for their roles, including gaining weight.
Jack White performed as the musical guest that night, which was also his fifth appearance on SNL. On the episode that Bill Burr hosted in 2020, he last made an appearance on the show.
White, 47, sang twice during the performance, first belting out “Taking Me Back/Fear of the Dawn” and then returning to the stage to belt out “A Tip from You to Me.”
SNL’s 48th season has been in progress as the comedic sketch program deals with a significant cast transition. Longtime series regulars Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney exited after the season 47 finale.
On September 1, the source announced that Melissa Villaseor, Alex Moffat, and featured player Aristotle Athari would also be leaving the series. After five seasons, Chris Redd announced his retirement from SNL, while Cecily Strong quit the program in December 2022.
On September 15, NBC announced the names of the four new featured performers that will appear on Saturday Night live in season 48: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
Season 48 of SNL, according to creator Lorne Michaels, is in a “transition year” because “a different generation comes into the program,” he said while speaking to reporters backstage at the 2022 Emmy Awards. On March 4, Travis Kelce will host the show, and Kelsea Ballerini will perform as a musical guest.
