ECP postpones Punjab elections, reshedules them for Oct 8
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the elections in Punjab...
LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has violated the constitution of Pakistan by postponing elections in Punjab till October 2023.
In his twitter message, Imran Khan “Today everyone must stand behind the legal community, the judiciary and lawyers – with expectation that they will protect Constitution. For if this is accepted today then it is the end of rule of law in Pakistan.”
He further said “We dissolved our two provincial legislatures with expectation that elections would be held in 90 days as clearly given in our Constitution. We did not take this action to allow a bunch of fascists to impose a reign of terror, violating the Constitution and rule of law.”
Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the elections in Punjab and decided to hold the elections on Oct 8 2023.
The ECP said that the conduct of the free and fair elections on April 30 is not possible, but it has not explained the reasons for postponement of the polls. It has suspended the schedule for the elections.
However, the ECP said that all stakeholders had excused to assist it for holding the free and fair polls in the province.
