Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has announced his decision to move from Seattle to Miami for personal reasons, including a desire to be closer to his parents and Blue Origin’s operations in Cape Canaveral.

The billionaire shared his strong connection to Seattle, the city where he launched Amazon from his garage in 1994 and transformed it into a global retail powerhouse in an Instagram post.

He included a video in the post, filmed at Amazon’s first office in Seattle, in which he reflected on the company’s remarkable journey.

Bezos captioned the post with these words: “Seattle has been my home since 1994 when I started Amazon out of my garage. That’s my dad behind the camera in this video, touring Amazon’s first “office.” My parents have always been my biggest supporters.”

“They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral. For all that, I’m planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest.”

“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”

The relocation stems from Blue Origin, Bezos’s private space company, moving more of its operations to Cape Canaveral, Florida, making proximity a significant consideration in his decision.

Amazon’s rapid growth in Seattle played a substantial role in transforming the city into a tech hub with well-paid tech professionals, upscale dining options, and soaring rental prices.

Bezos’s move is expected to have implications both on a personal level and for his business activities as he divides his time between Miami and the operations of Blue Origin.
