ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued an Income Tax General Order aimed at deactivating the mobile SIM cards of over 506,000 individuals for their failure to file Income Tax returns. Despite being identified as eligible to file returns, these individuals have not done so and are not listed in the FBR Active Taxpayer database.

Under the FBR’s Income Tax General Order, mobile connections of non-filers of Income Tax returns are subject to termination without prior notice. The FBR has requested a report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) regarding the disconnected mobile numbers.

Effective immediately, the SIM cards of individuals identified as non-filers with taxable income will be blocked until May 15th. This directive was issued via a notification from the FBR, instructing telecom companies to enforce the measure promptly.

The list of non-filers comprises 506,671 individuals who have not been included in the Active Taxpayers List, targeted for their failure to file tax returns for the year 2023.
