Batiste began his performance by sitting at a grand piano and demonstrating his ability behind the keys. Before standing and bringing a complete band and choir onto an eye-catching pastel-colored stage setup. Batiste contorted his limbs with glee around the brilliant forms onstage. Surprisingly, the show ended with Batiste confidently getting up in front of Billie Eilish’s table. While garnering one of the greatest applauses of the evening. Batiste, who is also the bandleader on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, has 11 nominations and is expected to win at least four awards: best music video for Freedom, best American roots performance and song for Cry, and best score soundtrack for visual media for his Oscar-winning collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails on Soul.
