
LAHORE: US Consul General William K Makaneole and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) discussed the progress on various hydropower projects, a statement said.
The US consul general was accompanied by USAID director for Office of Energy Jenna Diallo during the meeting held at the Wapda House.
The Wapda chairman briefed the visiting guests about various projects, including Diamer-Basha Dam, Mohmand Dam and Dasu Dam.
Upon completion, these projects will add more than 11MAF of water to the existing storage capacity and inject 9,000MW of environment-friendly and low-cost hydel electricity to the national grid.
The US delegation was also apprised about the innovative financial strategy adopted by the authority to arrange funds for the construction of these projects.
The Wapda chief highlighted the significance of these projects for poverty alleviation through the socioeconomic development of the country.
The US consul general appreciated Wapda for playing a pivotal role in coping with the water and energy needs of the country and also for arranging funds for these projects.
