According to three people familiar with the project, the organization has hired Hollywood directors such as Jon Favreau to create video material for a headgear that is anticipated to ship next year. According to these sources, Favreau, an executive producer of “Prehistoric Planet” on Apple TV+, is working to bring the show’s dinosaurs to life on the headset, which resembles a pair of ski goggles and seeks to give virtual and augmented reality experiences.

Separately, during its annual developer conference on Monday, Apple plans to introduce software tools that would allow apps to add new camera and speech capability, laying the framework for a hands-free interface that customers will eventually be able to navigate on the headset, according to two individuals familiar with the project and documents obtained by The New York Times.

Trudy Muller, an Apple representative, declined to comment on future projects. Favreau’s spokeswoman declined to comment.
