UK postal workers ready to strike once more in July

• About 1,500 workers at 114 Crown post offices will strike for one day on July 11.
• Communication Workers Union members rejected a salary offer of 3% plus a £500 lump sum.
• Earlier strikes occurred throughout the Jubilee bank holiday weekend and earlier in the spring.

Next month, UK postal employees in the United Kingdom will conduct their third nationwide strike of 2022, as industrial unrest over below-inflation pay settlements spreads throughout the public and private sectors.

The Communication Workers Union announced on Monday that approximately 1,500 workers at 114 Crown post offices – major high street branches of the state-owned group’s network — will strike for one day on July 11.

The CWU stated that members rejected a salary offer of 3% plus a £500 lump sum as “woefully inadequate” in light of double-digit inflation. Earlier strikes occurred throughout the Jubilee bank holiday weekend and earlier in the spring.

Later this week, the CWU will disclose the results of a second ballot about prospective industrial action at BT Group. It is also about to launch a poll on prospective action at Royal Mail, which may result in a strike of more than 115,000 employees later this summer.
