MGM Resorts sells land on Las Vegas Strip
The Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, located in central North Dakota, bought the 15-acre property.
The firm said on Friday that the sale of the Las Vegas Strip property that was the scene of the deadliest mass massacre in recent U.S. history has been completed.
Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President, informed his workers of the news in a letter on Friday.
The Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, located in central North Dakota, bought the 15-acre Village site.
On October 1, 2017, there were concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when a shooter started fire from his hotel room above. He committed 58 murders. Two more later perished from their wounds. By the time the shooting ceased, more than 850 people had been injured.
Since the shooting, the location has remained substantially intact and abandoned.
After a survey by Clark County revealed that the majority of respondents desired the homage to be constructed at the scene of the shooting, MGM Resorts donated two acres on the northeastern corner of the property for the permanent memorial last August.
Although preparations for the memorial have been ongoing since late 2019, it might be years before the last act of remembrance is revealed.
The two acres are not included in the transaction.
Hornbuckle claims to be aware of how important the place is to many people. However, he said that the Tribes “have shown that they care about our town, its future, and, of course, its past.”
The Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation make up the Three Affiliated Tribes. The MHA Nation is another name for them.
The Associated Press left a message for the Tribes’ representatives, but they did not respond right away.
