A person’s life recently changed in around a billion different ways.

Prior to Friday’s $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot drawing, which was the second-largest in the game’s history, a resident of Maine bought the winning ticket, according to lottery officials.

The lottery winner, which hasn’t had a jackpot winner since October 14, matched all six of the game’s numbers. The figures were Mega Ball 14 and 30, 43, 45, 46, 61.

One player surpassed the improbable odds of 1 in 302.6 million, making it a fortuitous Friday the thirteenth.

Both the winner and the location where the ticket was bought have not been made public. Because they are concerned for their safety and privacy, some state lottery officials choose not to name the winners.

The jackpot win is Maine’s first ever, according to lottery officials.

The victory stops a string of 26 draws. Due to the lack of a winner earlier in the week, the top reward on Friday rose to exceed the $1.35 billion jackpot won in July 2022. The $1.53 billion earned in October 2018 still outweighs it.

The outcome of a Powerball draw in November, with a cash value of $2.04 billion, resulted in the highest lottery prize ever paid in the United States.

The winner on Friday will have the option of taking 30 payments totaling $1.35 billion in annuities or a single payment of $724.6 million in cash.

The sum for the jackpot has now been reset to $20 million for the upcoming drawing on Tuesday night.
