Despite 2023 being a challenging year for local assemblers, marked by significantly reduced sales figures nearly halving the volumes, it’s worthwhile to explore which cars performed best in terms of sales between January to December 2023.
- Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage, a stalwart in Kia’s local lineup, secured its place in the top 10 with 3,252 units sold in 2023. However, this marked a 52% decline associated to the 7,630 units sold in 2022.
- Suzuki Wagon R
In 9th place, the Suzuki Wagon R tallboy hatchback recorded 3,494 units sold in 2023, representing a staggering 77% decline from the 15,273 units sold in 2022. Notably, the highest admiration of the Suzuki Wagon R in Pakistan was in 2017/18 when more than 29,000 units were sold in a year.
- Suzuki Cultus
The Suzuki Cultus claimed the 8th spot with 3,721 units sold in 2023, reflecting a 73% decrease compared to the 13,798 units sold in 2022. It’s worth noting that over 23,000 units of Cultus were sold in 2021, marking the pinnacle of its popularity.
- Hyundai Tucson
With 4,198 units, the Hyundai Tucson secured 7th place among the top sellers but witnessed a 28% decline compared to 5,804 units sold in 2022.
- Suzuki Swift
The Suzuki Swift, inhabiting the 6th position, saw 4,433 units sold between January and December 2023. However, this signified a significant 65% decline in sales compared to the 12,833 units sold in 2022.
- Toyota Yaris
Yaris was placed in 5th place having sold 4,796 units in 2023. However, compared to 15,507 units sold in 2022, the sedan suffered a 69% sales decline. Not to mention, in its peak time in 2020/21, Yaris clocked nearly 30,000 units a year.
- Toyota Hilux
Hilux at 4th place is nothing less than a surprise. The 5,401 units in 2023 however, rendered a 42% dip in sales compared to 9,339 units sold in 2022.
- Honda City
Honda City grabbed the platform place having sold 5,888 units in 2023. However, compared to the previous year, sales were down by 70% since 19,860 units were sold in 2022.
- Toyota Corolla
The enduring Toyota Corolla, a preferred sedan in the market, secured the 2nd position with 7,176 units sold in 2023. This, however, represented a 70% decline from the already reduced numbers of 23,960 units sold in 2022. Remarkably, at its peak, the Corolla used to sell over 50,000 units annually.
- Suzuki Alto
Once again, the Suzuki Alto maintained its position as the highest-selling car in Pakistan. However, sales saw a significant 68% drop from 66,427 units in 2022 to 21,170 units in 2023. Despite the decline, the sales of the runner-up were almost three times less than that of the Alto. In its peak year of 2021, Alto witnessed the departure of more than 70,000 units from showroom floors.
